Kai Castro

Kai Castro came up alongside the rise of Austin’s electronic music scene, holding residencies at two of the city’s most iconic clubs—Kingdom and The Concourse Project. There, he built a reputation as a versatile and high-impact DJ, regularly supporting acts like Sammy Virji, Mall Grab, Eric Prydz, and Sasha. A staple of the local festival circuit, he’s also performed at seven editions of Seismic Dance Event. Kai’s sound lives between genres—drawing from house, UK garage, and leftfield club—with a style that’s high-energy, high-personality, and unmistakably his own. In 2025, he launched Birds of Play, an independent label built to house his distinctive songwriting and the sounds he wasn’t hearing elsewhere. After moving to Chicago in 2024, Kai quickly broke into the city’s club circuit with a debut at Spybar, followed by shows at Concord Music Hall and Smoke & Mirrors. Offstage, he’s equally engaged—serving as Director of Marketing + A&R at Chicago Electronic Music Conference. At his core, Kai champions authenticity, connection, and optimism.
