BettySoo, a "Korean-Americana" artist raised by immigrant parents in Spring, Texas, grew up on a steady diet of classical music, the Great American songbook, country radio, and the jewels of folk songwriters and Texas songwriting legends. If Heat Sin Water Sin (with Gurf Morlix) built her audience, When We’re Gone (2014) firmed her place in the first rank of songwriters, and 2025's If You Never Go Away proved her staying power. She’s won awards and played festivals/shows: Kerrville, Mountain Stage, SXSW, Calgary, E-Town, BBC2 with Bob Harris. In addition to a heavy touring schedule, she has been a go-to harmony vocal singer and arranger for dozens of artists' albums, including Eliza Gilkyson, James McMurtry, Robert Harrison, Jaimee Harris, Bonnie Whitmore, Graham Weber, and others. Pre-pandemic, BettySoo toured solo, and as a member of multiple bands. Since 2022, she has been touring internationally in support of (and as a member of the band for) both James McMurtry and Chris Smither.
